Sleep: the foundation for health, happiness and fitness!
Sleep: The foundation of health and fitness results
Why worry about sleep?
Quality sleep is essential for fitness, weight management, physical, and mental health. Yet one in three Americans reports some insomnia or sleep disorder. The impact is huge on both an individual and community level. It’s costly. Poor sleep habits are responsible for:
A reduction in longevity - by years!
A devastating effect on creativity and work productivity
Inability to progress with fitness or weight loss goals
Good quality sleep is measured by how much deep sleep and REM sleep you get.
REM sleep is typically when you dream. “Things speed up, except a person cannot move," says Dr. Krahn of The Mayo Clinic in Minnesota. "They're paralyzed, and that's actually felt probably to be a rinsing function — to clear the brain of toxins and by-products that have collected during the waking day. In general, people alternate among several different levels of non-REM and REM sleep every night. The longer you spend in deeper sleep, the more refreshed you'll feel in the morning,"
If you aren’t getting adequate REM sleep, we can virtually guarantee that your productivity, fitness, and mental health are not where they should be. Sleep coaching provides education, measurement tools, and techniques for rapid improvement.
What is sleep coaching?
The science on sleep has never been better. Today, we not only have data on what causes sleep problems and makes for good sleep, we also have an array of tools to measure sleep performance. We believe that there is no such thing as “an insomninac” but that there are many things you can do to cause insomnia — and most are preventable. Our sleep training program will show you what those are and how to implement them.
In our sleep training, we recommend HRV Heart Rate Variability tracking as the leading method of measuring volume, type, and quality of sleep. During the training, you’ll wear a Whoop device, a small watch-like tracker worn on your wrist. We’ll train you how to use and understand the results and guide you to improved fitness, health, and mental clarity.
Our sleep training program will enable you to see results in the first month and help you continue on a path to great sleep and improved fitness in subsequent months. You will learn the latest science on the impact of light (natural and artificial), diet, alcohol, hormones, exercise and other factors in establishing your circadian rhythm and sleep cycle. Then we train you how to use and read results from your Whoop HRV tracking devide, and how you can use the biofeedback to encourage a multitude of small habit changes which improve sleep.
